JESUS'S subtle warning to the people was quite simple but it was a warning which touches the very emotional fibers of the mind and soul. This warning is found in the the Gospel of Luke chapter 17 verse 32 when he very simply said, " Remember Lot's wife"....He had just told the people listening that just before His second coming that people would be so caught up in the activities of their daily lives that just like in the days of Noah and Lot, they will not be able to discern the signs of the time...,WHY?... because of the deceptive nature of the overwhelming distractions.

The people will be blinded, those who are not blinded He says to them in verse 31, "..In that day, he which is on the housetop and his BELONGINGS in the house...let him not come down to get it...he that is in the field working let him not return.."verse 36 He warns.." Two men shall be in the field one will be TAKEN and the other Left." Let us carefully reflect on how this warning is so deceptively dangerous that He says in verse 32, "REMEMBER LOT'S WIFE". ...........Let us place Mrs Lot in today's busy world and the year 2010-20? and the many natural distractions and see if we would have fared any better.... the casual reader, reading the story of Mrs Lot in Genesis 19 would simply just read the account and come to the natural conclusion that disobedience led to her demise.

My friend, Jesus wanted us to focus on the person of Lot's wife for a reason...Lot's wife represented a mother who was very involved with her family and she apparently loved her children very much.......it was from this sensitive and emotional posture as a natural and caring mother that led to her downfall, it was from this sensitive platform that satan attacked her emotions and succeeded in destroying Mrs Lot.............. Mrs Lot knew about the signs of the times because her husband, Lot a righteous man, told her about the upcoming destruction of the city as related to him by God's messengers based on the moral depravity of the inhabitants. ....

In the book of Genesis 19 we learned that the only ones that were going to be saved were Mrs Lot,her two virgin daughters and Lot her husband, this created a lot of turmoil in Mrs Lot mind.....it is from this background that we are going to place Mrs Lot in today's very busy society .....As a mother can you imagine the immense emotional struggle she went through, the conflicting emotions going through her tormented mind...she had other children and grandchildren she loved dearly other than the two virgin daughters living with her. Mrs Lot was a protective mother, she labored for nine months carrying her children in her womb, she was a loving mother who made sacrifices to make sure they had an opportunity to be something in life, she was willing to die for all her children if attacked by anyone....the eldest daughters grew up, moved out and got married .

The issues facing Mrs Lot were real emotional issues that any well thinking mother would be concerned about ..How could God a just God not include her other children. ...Her husband understands this turmoil, tries to tell her to trust him in this situation , he explains to her that he made attempts to speak to the other daughters and their husbands but not only did they reject his warning they mocked him.( Gen 19:14). He explains to her that as a result he has to keep moving so as prepare his immediate family to escape the upcoming destruction and not look back...Can you imagine in today's society Mrs Lot probably had made plans with one of the married daughters to get together for the weekend for dinner and they could leave the grandchildren for the weekend, after making all this plan her husband advises her that it's not going to happen because of what is about to take place..can you imagine the anger she felt towards her husband because he is listening to some.." so called messengers", her husband although having the same love for His children understands the importance of following God's instructions....she struggles as she unwillingly heads towards the door, just as she is about to reach the door the phone starts ringing, she shouts to her husband that it is probably her other daughter calling to confirm the dinner date...Lot shouts back at her to keep moving and not to look back.....as Mrs Lot reaches the door she is beginning to smell the burning sulphur, she is seeing the flashing lightning..she is hearing the resounding thunder in the distance along with the eerie blood curdling screams of people dying ... Lot, her husband tries to console her as he hears her groaning, at the same time encouraging her to not look back..... Mrs Lot, rather than staying focus on God's instructions to not look back she begins to see her other children perishing in HER MIND, she becomes overwhelmed with grief..she screams aloud, calling their names and turns looking back immediately becoming engulfed in the ensuing destruction....

My friend Jesus is saying when that time comes He understands we must honor our family but he is demanding our allegiance to HIM...He wants us to take his message of salvation to others who are willing to follow Him.(Matt10:37) ..." ....he that loves son or daughter more than ME is not worthy of ME.."..................JESUS is not saying we are not to love our family, Believe me, Lot loved his wife and all his children very dearly, he loved his wife from the very first time he met her, he dated her,..... fell in love with her characteristics, married her, she bore his children,they established a home together as a family BUT when that time came and he saw his wife turning around to look back .. can you just imagine the agonizing pain he was experiencing ,the gut wrenching emptiness that attacked him when his wife was consumed . BUT,..HE DISCERNED THE TIMES.....he chose to obey God and not look back.......

Yes my friends JESUS WARNED...." Remember Lot's wife" because He knows when that time is about here we are going to have to make hard decisions, important decisions.....crucial decisions that are going to shake the very foundations of our lives regarding the allegiances we have in our hearts regarding material things and human relationships He says in Heb12: ( 26-27 )......" once more I shake not the earth only but also the heavens..."..........My friends as that time rapidly approaches, as we prepare ourselves to be ultimately tested, remember this,..there will be those who claim to see but will be blind, those who claim to hear but will be deaf and those who through obedience to God WILL BE ABLE TO DISCERN THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES, recognize His mercy and love and through the empowerment of His Holy Spirit will be able to move beyond the sceptics and mockers in spreading His salvation message to the lost because indeed THE TIME IS AT HAND.
